Extracurricular Activities

As a member of the Illinois Elementary School Association, St. Thomas provides a variety of IESA approved extracurricular activities. Sports include baseball, softball (in a cooperative with Jasper County Junior High), cross-country (also in a cooperative with JCJH), boys junior high basketball, girls junior high basketball (in a cooperative with JCJH), co-ed 5th & 6th grade basketball, volleyball, and track. Non-sports activities include literary contest and band/music contests. Newton Community High School has a long-standing tradition of excellence in its marching band. To help prepare our students to be part of this tradition, all students in grades 5-8 participate in band. Therefore, while it's not really an extracurricular activity, band is part of the program we provide our students. The band marches in several parades and also provides concerts throughout the year.
