About St. Thomas:

Location: St. Thomas the Apostle School is located in Newton, Illinois. Newton is located approximately 1 hour west of Terre Haute, Indiana and 2 hours east of St. Louis, Missouri. Newton is approximately 35 miles southeast of Effingham, IL. Newton is the county seat of Jasper County in South Central Illinois. Jasper County is a rural community proud of its agricultural heritage. The town's population is approximately 3100 residents. Located within Jasper County are the towns and villages of Newton, Ste. Marie, Wheeler, Falmouth, Rose Hill, Hidalgo, Hunt City, Yale, and Gila.

Admissions: Students from all over Jasper county attend St. Thomas Catholic School. St. Thomas School admits students of any race, color, national, and ethnic origin to all th rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded, or made availabe to the students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administrated programs.

St. Thomas School gives preference in admission to Catholic students who are members of St. Thomas Parish; secondly, to Catholic students who are not members of St. Thomas Parish; thirdly, to students who are not Catholic. Non-Catholics may, for suuficient reason, be accepted into St. Thomas School, but the adminstration reserves the right to refuse them. If they are accepted into the school, they must meet certain requirements.

Grade Levels Served: St. Thomas School serves students in grades preschool through eighth grade. The average class size is 17 students. There is one classroom per grade level. The enrollment for the 2009-10 school year is 135 students.

Subjects Taught: Religion, Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Penmanship, Art, Music/Band, Technology, and Physical Education/Health

Grading Scale: A+ 100% B+ 92-91% C+ 85-84% D+ 74%

  A 99-95% B 90-88% C 83-77% D 73-71%

  A- 94-93% B- 87-86% C- 76-75% D- 70%

  F 69% or below
